Rodney Copperbottom is a young and genius inventor who dreams of making the world a better place for robots and Cappy, a beautiful, witty and intelligent 'bot with whom he is instantly smitten. Beside Rodney, the nefarious corporate tyrant Ratchet locks horns with him; Bigweld, the master inventor, roams aimlessly; a group of misfit 'bots known as the Rusties are led by Fender and Piper Pinwheeler. Fender's head, arms and legs regularly fall off at all the wrong times. When Rodney fixes her ills, the two become great friends. Piper, Fender's sister, surprises all with her determination and strength.
