PRO REVIEWS:
----------------------------------------
"With its flat story, numbed-out protagonist, and faux artistic lighting and set design - everything is dark or moody or darkishly moody or moodily dark - Max Payne seems a good half hour longer than its running time." (Mick LaSalle: San Francisco Chronicle)
----------------------------------------
"It's hight on guns and poses, but little else. (...) The attempts to out-Matrix "The Matrix," with bullet-time super-slo mo, are staged with such theatrics that they're unintentionally funny. (...) mostly it's a weak little sister to "Sin City". (...) Rating: ** (out of four)." (Kyle Smith: New York Post)
----------------------------------------
"Max Payne couldn't be more appropriately named. Sitting through this stylish-looking but derivative, vacuous and bullet-riddled movie inflicts maximum pain.(...) Rating: *1/2 (out of four)." (Claudia Puig: USA Today)
----------------------------------------
"A somber, stylized new action movie (...) It’s not an especially good movie, but such a judgment is not really relevant to its ambitions. (...) A coherent story would be a lot to ask, and would in any case slow down the movie’s rhythm." (A. O. Scott: The New York Times)
----------------------------------------
"Max still suffers from the heartlessness that makes games emotionally inferior to movies. Nobody ever shed a tear over a video-game character's death." (Roger Moore: Orlando Sentinel)
----------------------------------------
"Max Payne may be the worst movie of the year. The 'may be' qualifier is only because the year isn't over yet." (Tom Long: Detroit News)
